Discouraged

I have been dutifully preparing to knit my Bees. I've finished several objects, and wound my Bee yarn. Last night I sat down to incorporate the corrections into my pattern, and then cast on. Sigh - so many corrections, I ended up starring the rows and marking them "see correction".

I'm an experienced knitter, and have knit a number of lace shawls, but reading the pages and pages of Bee Fields was daunting. It will just have to "season" some more before I tackle all that.

Barbara-Kay, this was exactly my concern this weekend when I contemplated my bee shawl. Given the extensive corrections in a very detailed pattern, would it be unreasonable to ask that those who purchased the pattern earlier could receive an updated pattern (via e-mail, perhaps?) with the errata incorporated? I'm so glad that I didn't start the shawl sooner, or I would really have felt like a test knitter. In contrast, I haven't seen any corrections for the stole. Is that because relatively few people have finished it,or was it just a cleaner pattern?

Please don't get me wrong. I love both of these projects, and Anne is an amazing designer. There are just a lot of corrections to incorporate into the pattern as originally published.

Hi ladies, Anne has mentioned I think on her blog that she is happy to send updated versions if you email her!
I did before I started and she sent one right out to me. There have been a few corrections since but I just wrote them it.

Thanks for this info Michelle!

I was worried that the instructions were super long when I first got it (I'm not very experienced with lace), but I just jumped in and was hooked. Part of the reason it's so long is that she includes both row by row and charted versions. I used row-by-row for the setup up and beehive sections, and switched over to the chart for the swarm. I've just been taking it one section at a time, its much more manageable to think about 12 stitches at once--except when I've made errors independant of the errata!

if you are a chart knitter, you have no worries about corrections to the pattern! (at least, i had no problems with the charts) the corrections appear to be for the row-by-row written instructions. i knit my shawl from the charts, with no problems. good luck with your shawl. the knit is very enjoyable.

Did you have a clear images for your charts and symbols? I seem to be straining my eyes with the charts, especially the "bee in field section 1" chart. It seems a bit fuzzy, even the hard copy i ordered. Any suggestions or advice?
